Ask most parents how their child is doing in school and the honest answer is: they know the last test score, and not much else. Not because they don't care, but because a report card issued once a term isn't built to carry more than that.
The gap isn't information — schools generate plenty of it every week. It's that almost none of it reaches parents in a form they can act on. Which topic their child is working on right now. Whether last week's quiz surfaced a gap, and whether anything is being done about it. Progress that's visible as it happens, not summarized months later.
None of this requires a parent to interpret raw data or chase a teacher for an update. It just requires the same understanding profile a teacher already has access to, shown to the one other person with the most reason to care.
